Our number one beloved circuit that combines the useful with the pleasant. An 11 Days journey during which learning about the country and its history and whole-heartedly enjoying the stunning views and the delightful activities fuse together to provide you with everlasting memories. We call this trip “Moroccan Anti Atlas Circle” for a good reason; you travel by no means the same route more than once. Although the trip’s description here starts from Marrakech, you can always depart from any point you prefer. Thus, we suggest impeccable 8 nights starting from Marrakech towards the south past the Atlas Mountains, then heading to the town of Taroudant and the Sahara desert followed by the coastal Essaouira. This circuit is conceived for those who love to travel for some of its days include a great deal of driving, yet it also includes things to do and explore providing a healthy refreshing dose of thrill and amusement.
Our driver will meet you at your arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport to directly take you to your Riad; a splendid calm guest house situated in the centre of the Medina, yet far from all the restless hubbub of Marrakech centre. The Jemaa el-Fna square is a must-visit this evening so that you and your children meet the acrobat dancers, musicians, storytellers and snake charmers, to name a few, that furnish the square and transfigure it during the night into a pleasant vibrant site full of joy and amusement. Only to eventually have a panoramic view at one of rooftop bar cafes while enjoying a cool glass of wine and fresh orange juice for the children.
Make your stay in Marrakech as beneficial, fascinating and memorable as possible. Having enjoyed your breakfast, your driver and guide will pick you up and take you to discover the wonders of Marrakech. Make sure you take your camera fully charged as you will discover some amazing places and meet some wonderful people! , make your visits to open places such as Majorelle Gardens in the early morning to enjoy the peaceful lively garden before it is hot and crowded. Visit the various touristic attractions and historical monuments such as El Koutoubia, Saadian Tombs and the Souks during the day. And don’t forget to meander through the fabled Jemaa el-Fna Square that metamorphoses into a vivid splendid place full of scents and melodies in the evening.
Early in the morning, you will leave from Marrakech towards the southeast meandering along the serpentine roads of the Atlas Mountains through the pass of Tizi n’Tichka then to the gateway to the desert. After about 3 and a half hours’ drive, you will enjoy a delicious lunch at the mountain village where a fortress holding its exact same name and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site proudly stands. It is the picturesque Kser Ait Ben Haddou where you will spend 2 hours. Heading southward in the afternoon, the scenery gets more magical and serene. After about 2 hours’ drive, you will arrive at the Kasbah Azul in the town of Agdz where you can relax and spend the night.
Through the Draa valley, known for its captivating oases and local pottery, you will head today to the small oasis town of M'Hamid El Ghizlane which literally means the plain of gazelles and which is situated about 3 to 4 hours southeast Agdz. Thence, you have over one hour’s journey using 4×4’s and camels to reach the vast breath-taking dunes of Chigaga. Once there, you might ascend a dune to contemplate the astonishing sunset or venture sand boarding. It is noteworthy that it’s challenging yet amusing and splendidly fun. After that, set to watch your hosts preparing your meal then entertaining you while you enjoy it. You will be given sleeping quarters. Enjoy your night under the stars.
After a night under the stars, having the pleasure of catching the spectacular sunrise deserves the early camel trek. Your trip today will take a leisurely pace and lead you, following a relaxed breakfast, across the desert and the Iriki dry lake to the exit point of the desert; Foum Zguid, while enjoying a fossil chase organised by your guide. From there, you have two alternatives; hitting the road again for Taroudant and spend an extra night there or gently stopping at Foum Zguid and appreciating the final confines of the desert.
On your sixth day you will have a lot more to explore through the Anti Atlas, namely at its southern side where the lovely Taznakht stands at 4609 feet above sea level. It is the centre of the gorgeous Berber carpet making. Thus, it is a perfect spot to do some shopping if baggage allowances permit. Another town en route is Taliouine which is famous for one of the world's most costly spices by weight; saffron. A visit to one of the farms up in the valleys might be arranged to marvel at the stunning plant, its vivid colours and the income generating small businesses. Subsequently, you will reach Taroudant; a small lovely town resembling Marrakech or as they call it” the Mother of Marrakech”.
After breakfast at your hotel, today we drive south-eastwards to the Anti-Atlas mountain region near the town of Tafraoute. The route passes across Irherm, before reaching Gorges of Ait Mansour. On leaving the Gorges the landscape becomes ever more mountainous and you will gain height on winding roads, the highest peaks here are above 2000m. The terrain is wonderfully stark and rugged, with the occasional glimpse of palm oases and villages clinging to hillsides. The route eventually makes a descent to the town of Tafraoute. A short distance from there you will reach your guest-house in the picturesque Ameln Valley, at the base of imposing ochre-coloured rock walls. An opportunity to enjoy a short walk in the Ameln Valley in the late afternoon – the rocks change form and colour as the light conditions alter. Overnight in the Ameln Valley in traditional guest-house.
After enjoying your breakfast at your guesthouse, you will be picked up to head to the direction of the coast but before you reach the coast line, you will have the opportunity to stop at the City of Silver, Tiznit. Surrounded by its long walls, the city was built around a water source, called the Blue Spring – Aïn Zerka. The small alleys of the medina create a veritable labyrinth and you will immediately fall under the spell of this maze. The city is cheerful and colorful. You will continue your journey to reach Agadir where you will spend a night.
It’s shore break! From Agadir, you will travel towards Essaouira, one of the Portuguese fortresses from the 15th century, to unwind for couple days. A city where wood handicraft merges with culinary arts, fisheries, windy beaches and UNESCO-classified heritage- the “Medina”-. Once there, you have many options. You may go for activities like quad biking, surfing, horse trekking and wind surfing, especially that the city is known for its great beaches and surf activities. You can also choose to spend the day discovering what the Medina has to offer from artisanal wood workshops and lovely souks to Portuguese monuments and art exhibitions. Another alternative is to relax either on the beach or in one of the various cafés with terraces. Don’t forget to enjoy your night out in the city, a night unlike any others!
Today is your return home day. Our driver will pick you up from your hotel for a private transfer back to Marrakech Menara Airport in time for your flight home.
